Tax liability in times of Covid-19
Abstract
On March 11th 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) concluded that the Covid-19 coronavirus can be characterized as a pandemic due to the rapid proliferation in the number of cases and the rise in mortality produced by the virus. From that moment on on, this has produced countless reactions from countries and citizens worldwide aiming at understanding and facing this disease. In Colombia, manifestations of solidarity have emerged from the state, businesses and citizens. It is outrageous, however, to learn that some resources for vulnerable sectors of society such as groceries, foodstuff, or those earmarked for the healthcare sector (equipment, medical resources, masks, etc.), are being misappropriated in order to enrich corrupt individuals. The consequences of wrongful actions and the practice of holding criminals accountable for their actions, especially in the fiscal aspect, are the focus of this text.
